It’s in the Genes?

I can think of several things that inspired me to start writing in retirement. People I have met; places I have visited; a desire to leave a legacy of my own life for future generations. But perhaps there is an underlying secret.

My grandfather researched his family history way back to 1066. He recorded his findings for futures generations. Painstakingly, my dad reproduced his father’s work in notebooks, passing copies on to several family members. Later my dad wrote his war memoirs and his life story.

I began my writing days in retirement by using the new technology, the word processor, to make the work of my father and my grandfather more widely available. Since completing these tasks I have written my own memoirs — my teaching career, and my life story.

So, maybe it’s in the genes!
